Lil Wenker: Bangtail

Bangtail is a cowboy—specifically, the baddest man in Texas. But he’s missing something in his wild day-to-day: his purpose. So he sets off to find it, leaving the Wild West for a day job in middle America. Now, instead of wrangling cows, he wrangles the books at a mid-sized animal feed manufacturer in rural Minnesota. But, when that’s not quite right either, he searches for something MORE. Armed with only a penchant for cacti, a mustache made of plasters, and a friend or two, Bangtail searches to become someone more than a lone-ranger or a lonely pencil-pusher.

BANGTAIL has played previously at the Bread and Roses Theatre and Leicester Comedy Festival and will go on to play in NYC, Minnesota, and at Brighton and Edinburgh Fringe.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Chekhov's Gum

Lil Wenker (performer) is a clown from Minnesota and the co-founder of Chekhov’s Gum. Chekhov’s Gum makes rowdy and highly physical comedies that remind the audience of the power and stupidity of live theatre (audiences see costume changes, cardboard sets, the beautiful chaos of the present). Chekhov’s Gum has toured around NYC, debuted work at the Edinburgh Fringe, and released several digital projects.

Outside of Chekhov’s Gum, Lil has worked as a solo artist around the US. She studied at Gaulier, co-created an act for France’s Got Talent, has written and produced several short films, and now frequents alternative comedy nights around London.

Cecily is an actor, director and theatre-maker based in London. She is a graduate of the two-year professional physical theatre course at École Jacques Lecoq. Most recently, Cecily co-created and directed the award-winning clown show TROLL; from a critically acclaimed run in Edinburgh to Soho Theatre, it is currently touring the Adelaide & Melbourne fringes. She has worked as an actor and theatre-maker for over a decade with credits including The Campers (2022 UK tour), The Frida Kahlo of Penge West (OffWestEnd nomination for Lead Performance in a Play), The Wind in the Willows, Widows Walk (feature film) and various voice works including channel 5's The Floogals.

BANGTAIL marks the first collaboration between award-nominated clown Lil Wenker and award-winning director Cecily Nash to create the perfectly stupid marriage of American and British clowning. They joined forces with a common belief: when people learn to delight in their silliness, they connect with their humanity.
